Maldives is a beautiful island country in the Indian Ocean, just a short hop away from home for me. My partner and I went there for a few days in the middle of a very busy work quarter to unplug, enjoy nature, and get in a spot of diving. Although we missed the famed whale sharks which apparently swim around the South Ari Atoll daily, we had a lovely time there. Being surrounded by fifty shades of deep azure everywhere we looked, and waking up to the sound of waves so close to the villa, was very calming. Maldives is a true couples’ paradise getaway, full of honeymooners, so it felt very quiet and private.

One thing I remember specifically about Maldives: it’s really super flat – no wonder word has it that the country won’t be around in another 50 years’ time. Also, no wonder the country bans tourists from catching crabs (and cooking them in their rooms in kettles) – because they are so easy to catch when the water is shallow and only steps away from the villa!
