Why travel to inaccessible places? Because those make for the best adventures when you do it with sufficient research and bring the right attitude. I loved all of these places that I got the chance to travel to and explore, but some of the best moments were: living with locals in casa particulaires and cruising in 1950s Chevys in Cuba; hiking and camping along the Druk Trek in Bhutan; learning how to kitesurf in Venezuela; teaching English at a random and untouristed village school in Cambodia; interviewing the “heads” of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital in North Korea; being surprised by 7-8 giant mantas (one breached the water while we were gearing up) in Raja Ampat on Christmas Day; paragliding in the Swiss Alps at sunset; visiting the West Bank, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on Memorial Day and Independence Day; kayaking amongst icebergs, whales and penguins in Antarctica…and being offered 20 camels in exchange for my hand in marriage to a Bedouin nomad.
